Meet Howie
Howie is a six year old Miniature Schnauzer who needs a forever home. Howie has no particularly sad story to tell, no special needs, and he's not in any danger of being euthanized in a kill shelter. Howie just needs a great home to call his own.
Originally I read about Howie on my friend Denise's blog back at the end of May. Denise is one of the founders of Schnauzer Paws Rescue. As far as I know Schnauzer Paws is the only organized schnauzer rescue group located in New England. They operate with a very small dedicated group of volunteers and like most rescue groups often struggle financially. When Denise blogged about Howie again a few days ago I was surprised to see he was still available. A relatively young, healthy, handsome guy with no real behavioral problems generally doesn't stay in foster care for long.
When I asked Denise about him she said rescue in general is just slow. No applications have been coming in at all. Other groups she is in contact with are experiencing similar issues. I'm guessing it has something to do with the distractions of summer but who knows? That doesn't change anything for Howie however. He still needs a great home.
If you are interested in adopting Howie , you can submit an application online at Schnauzer Paw's website. The site also has a link where other available dogs are listed. If you aren't looking to add a family member to your home at this time but would like to make an always needed and greatly appreciated donation you can do that on the website as well.
***UPDATE*** Howie has a new home! Thanks to Tom Ryan for sharing the link to this story on his Facebook page.
Our forever home is full of mini-doxies, but I will gladly post this on my FB page to help out.
ReplyDeleteSo many dogs, so little time...thanks for your good works!

Thank you Nancy!
DeleteOh Howie, I hope you find a forever home real soon. *smooch*
ReplyDeleteI'd be happy to have him but I am not in the area. Can he come to the Midwest?
ReplyDeleteHi Eileen-The majority of rescue groups do not place out of their areas. If you would like referrals to schnauzer rescue groups in your area, contact me through the e-mail link on my blog and I'll see what I can find.
Deletebeautiful boy. I wish I had the adoption fee, I'd drive to Beverly and pick him up.
ReplyDeleteMy family is very interested in adopting Howie. We already own a Mini Schnauzer named Humphrey who is a bit of a couch potato yet can be very active in the late afternoon. I want to know if Howie does well with other dogs. Thanks in advance!
ReplyDeleteDenise, Howie is being fostered in central CT in a home with two other dogs. If you are interested in him, fill out the on line application at the Schnauzer Paw's website.
DeleteHow is my little Buddy Howie Doing? We found his Christmas Collar in the Box of Christmas Stuff a Couple of Nights ago. He was our "Son" until we had our baby. So glad he has a buddy in Humphrey Denise!!!!
DeleteSo glad that Howie was adopted. Saw him via Following Atticus. I went on to Schnauzer Paws Rescue and will donate for their cause. They now have a nice blog which I will follow for info, etc. re Schnauzers/Dogs since I have 2 Mini Schnauzies & 1 Beagle Adoptee/Rescue. Can never have enough info to help our furry kids. Sue, I also was happy to re find your blog. Best regards, Silvia
